Boston Red Sox

Brief History

Boston Red Sox have a history of more than a century as it started in 1901. The name of the team was chosen in 1907 which refers to the red color in their uniform. It began as one of the American League's Eastern Division Franchise. Since 1912 they have been playing at the Fenway Park. Soon after they made their debut, they won the World Series in 1903 by defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates. The team kept adding to its titles by winning four more championships in the next 15 years. After 1918, their losing spree started as Harry Frazee sold Babe Ruth. They kept losing about an average of 100 each season until Tom Yawkey finally bought the team in 1933. In 1939, Ted Williams, the greatest hitter of all time, joined the team. He is considered one of the veterans of the game and even today his book "The Science of hitting" is read by baseball players. In 1975 Tom Yawkey died and his wife took over as the new owner of the team. Unfortunately in 1992 she also died and John Harrington got the ownership and sold it to the New England Sports Adventures in 2002. In 2004, the team went against the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. In 2006, they set the record of winning 17 games without any error games.
