New Orleans Pelicans

A Brief History and Introduction of a Team:

The New Orleans Pelicans is a professional basketball team and member of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team is owned by Tom Benson and is spearheaded by general manager Dell Demps and Coach Monty Williams.

The New Orleans Pelicans play in the Southwest Division of the NBA’s Western Conference. The team started playing officially during the 1988-89 season, based in Charlotte, as the Charlotte Hornets. The franchise stayed in Charlotte for the next fourteen seasons, until moving to New Orleans. They began playing as the New Orleans Hornets in the 2001-02 NBA season. They remained in New Orleans for a short three seasons temporarily moving to Oklahoma City, due to a disastrous hurricane. During their stay in Oklahoma City, the team was known as the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets. In 2007, they went back to New Orleans for good. The New Orleans Hornets, subsequently changed their name to the New Orleans Pelicans and returned to the Hornets name to the city of Charlotte.

Past Achievements:

The franchise has been a part of NBA since 1988 under different names and in different cities. Throughout the franchise history, they did not achieve any outstanding achievements. They did, however, have some level of success as noted below:

The Overall Regular Season Record:

The team has a record of 961-1,023 in the last 25 seasons.

Post-Season Qualifications:

The team has qualified 12 times for the post-season.

Play-Off Victories:

The New Orleans Pelicans have won five playoff series in their 25 year franchise history.

Titles:

The Pelicans have won only one title, which was the divisional title won in 2008.

Pelicans did not gain any success in conference championship but they upset many rivals. In the season of 1993-1994 they were able to finish fifth and also beat Boston Celtics to crash their hopes of winning.

In 2001 the Hornets were able to reach the semi-finals for the third time in their history. They reached the semi-finals by beating Heat, which was kind of a surprise for many fans. Later they lost to Milwaukee Bucks which ended their hopes of winning the title.

In 2002 the Hornets returned to playoffs and finished the season on an average record. They went on to face New Jersey Nets in the semi-finals of the Conference championship, but were not able to struggle hard enough to sneak a win. 2002 was a disappointing season for Hornets as they finished last in the league as well. Soon they relocated and cut a new deal with NBA.

The Team Today:

Although the New Orleans Pelicans do not have a lot of prominent achievements, they are a great team. They give a beautiful performance in all the games. Their games are always exciting and fun to watch. Maybe it is their hard luck that they have not been able to get their hands on a really impressive title. However, they are still among those teams whom people love to see performing.

They have some great players in their current roster. These include Aminu-Al Farouq, Anderson Ryan, Anthony Davis and Gordon Eric etc.

The Pelicans have been playing their home games at the, indoor, New Orleans Arena, since 2002. New Orleans Arena opened in 1999, after the $114 million construction was completed. It is a multipurpose arena with a capacity of almost 19,000 people. The arena was renovated recently which has improved it a lot. The seats are quite comfortable and the staff there is also really friendly.

It is worth enjoying watching New Orleans Pelicans playing with dedication and enthusiasm. For having some joyful time, you must consider buying discounted New Orleans Pelicans tickets.
