Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies are a Major League Baseball (MLB) Team. They are the oldest name in professional American sports. They started playing from 1883. They are a member of Eastern Division Major League National League. The home field of the team is the Citizen’s Bank Park, located in South Philadelphia.

Past achievements

They have won 2 World Series championships and 7 National League Pennants. They have passed long period of struggles ever since they started their career. When the modern World Series started in 1903, the Phillies took 77 years to win their first ever World Series. It was the longest time any of the 16 teams in the Major League ever took. Although they have a long history, they were not very good at the game. They are the only team in the history of American professional sports that has lost most of their games. With time, their performance became better. They won 5 consecutive division titles starting from 2007 to 2011.

They were founded in 1883, when the team was relocated from Worcester, Massachusetts in the National League. They have played at a number of stadiums through the city. One of the stadiums, Shibe Park was renamed Connie Mack Stadium in the honor of the longtime athletic manager of the team. The spring training facilities of the team are located in Clearwater, Florida.

When the team was purchased by William B. Cox in 1943, their performance started to improve in the national league. They came out of the cellar for the first time in the last 5 years. When their performance became better, their fan base also increased. More and more people started to attend their home games. When everything was going well, the bad news came and revealed Cox was betting on the Phillies. Due to his actions Cox was later banned from baseball. New owner Bob Carpenter Jr. joined the team and he tried his best to polish not just the players, but also the image of the team. He changed the name of the team to Bluejays, but this name was dropped in 1949. Carpenter focused on the minor league affiliates. There was no attention given to player development. Whiz Kids, a lineup of new players, were developed by the farm of the team. They had a record of losing 23 games since 1900. This did not keep the team from appearing in more games.

Team today

After years and years of failure and a series of set back situations, the achievement of winning the first ever World Series championship brought a layer of happiness. This success was a motivation for the players as well as the coach. They also started winning consecutive playoffs. From this career era and onwards, the Philadelphia Phillies started facing ups and downs. 2011 was a successful year for the team. They won the National League Wild Card during this season. 2012 was again a year of ups and down for the team. Fortunately, their image has started to improve now.
