An overview of the story:

The musical 42nd Street is written by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble. The lyrics are written by Al Dublin whereas the music is composed by Harry Warren.

In this musical, the story of a young ambitious girl is told. The name of the girl is Peggy Sawyer, who is very humble and naïve. She wants to become a part of the cast of a Broadway musical. Although she is talented, she lacks the required confidence. Due to the lack of confidence, she cannot hide her nervousness. When the chorus begins, she couldn’t make it in time and misses her chance to join it. However, she gets lucky enough to get the attention of the director Julian Marsh who recognizes the talent in her. He gives her the chance she needs for her success and stardom. This makes Dorothy Brock, the leading lady of the show, who has stepped out of her youth and is aging, very angry. On the night the show is scheduled to open, due to Ms. Brock’s bad luck and the good luck of Peggy, Ms. Dorothy Brock falls down and breaks her ankle. A lot of panic and stress spreads throughout the company and when the show is just about to close, it is suggested that Peggy take the place of Ms. Dorothy Brock. In just one and a half days, Peggy learns all the songs, the dances and the acts and performs marvelously, thus becoming a Broadway star.
